Curriculum

From the time you enter the Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program, you will enjoy hands-on learning experiences as you work directly with the medical specialists who are on staff at Mercy.
Curriculum - Start July 1, 2007
There will be 13, 4 week blocks per year.

First-Year Rotations

  • 12 weeks FP/IM
  • 8 weeks OB
  • 4 weeks IP Surgery
  • 4 weeks ED
  • 4 weeks Night float
  • 8 weeks Peds IP 
  • 4 weeks Peds OP 
  • 2 weeks Radiology
  • 2 weeks Emergent Care
  • 4 weeks Cardiology

Total: 52 weeks

First-Year Clinic

(1) 1/2 day for 6 months then (2) 1/2 days final 6 months

Second-Year Rotations

  • 4 weeks ICU
  • 2 weeks newborn nursery
  • 4 weeks Community medicine
  • 2 weeks PICU
  • 4 weeks Psychiatry
  • 4 weeks Peds IP 
  • 4 weeks IM-Hospitalists
  • 4 weeks FP/IM
  • 4 weeks Neurology
  • 4 weeks Gynecology
  • 2 weeks Peds ER
  • 4 weeks Gastroenterology
  • 2 weeks billing and coding/compliance
  • 8 weeks Electives

Total - 52 weeks

Second-Year Clinic

(2) 1/2 days for 6 months then (3) 1/2 days final 6 months

  • 4 weeks Dermatology
  • 3 weeks ENT
  • 3 weeks Urology
  • 2 weeks Ophthalmology
  • 12 weeks FP/IM

  • 4 weeks Orthopedics
  • 2 weeks Practice Management
  • 2 weeks billing and coding/compliance
  • 4 weeks Peds IP
  • 8 weeks Electives

Third-Year Clinic

(3) 1/2 days for 6 months then (4) 1/2 days final 6 months

Geriatrics

Geriatrics and nursing home rounds will be conducted twice each month.
