Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program's Geriatric Fellowship is in the Department of Family Medicine at Mercy Family Medicine Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa. The Family Medicine Staff have 2 physicians that are fellowship trained with a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ). In addition, the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency has a CAQ. The remaining faculty are active in the comprehensive care of patients of all ages and participate in overseeing the Family Medicine in-patient service at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Program Director Geriatric Fellowship A native of Fort Salonga, New York, Dr. Kuhle is fellowship trained in Geriatrics at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Dr. Kuhle’s family medicine residency was at Broadlawns Medical Center, through the University of Iowa, where she was chief resident. Her medical degree was from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Kuhle serves as Senior Medical Advisor for Geriatric Affairs for the Iowa Public Health Department. In that capacity she chaired both the task force and the Board of Directors in the development of a Not-for-profit corporation to brings discount prescription drugs to the elderly in Iowa. Dr. Kuhle is published, most recently in Mayo Clinic Proceedings and a chapter for a new text book on Gender Specific Medicine. |

Dr. Shah joined the Mercy Family Medicine Residency faculty after completing a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 2000. He serves as the Associate Program Director. He is no stranger to the Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Shah completed a residency in Family Medicine here in 1999. Dr. Shah has a special interest in the care and treatment of seniors suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. He has been involved in numerous research studies of the disease. Dr. Shah has presented and published research on Alzheimer's at the local, national, and international level. In 1999 he was a delegate to, and presented at, the Dementia meeting in Yamanashi, Japan. Dr. Shah is a board member of Mid-Iowa Alzheimer's Association and Alzheimer's Prevention foundation. He is a member of the Iowa's Commission for Elder Affairs and an assistant professor with the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Shah is a native of Bombay, India and received his medical degree from Bombay University. He completed an internship at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Bombay before coming to the United States. Dr. Shah completed a General Surgery internship at the State University of New York in Stonybrook, New York prior to continuing his studies in Des Moines. Dr. Shah
